It can be quite challenging to face racism/discrimination/hatred in the classroom. Bringing up potentially contentious subjects like ‘why we hate or stereotype’ or ‘unconscious biases we all hold’ with students can seem daunting. At times, after a racist incident occurs, we feel driven to tackle these topics, but we don’t always know where to begin. Participants will experience an effective, interactive lesson (with polls and breakout rooms), practicing civil discourse and listening to survivor testimonials, to safely open the discussion. We’ll be using free, online resource Voices into Action in this workshop, to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion with students.
