The approach used to promote French reading skills in a virtual kindergarten in a 50% English and 50% French setting.
Using a combination of introducing new letters, syllables, and French vocabulary in a playful way, holding weekly small literacy group meets during asynchronous blocks, assigning asynchronous work that can often be completed fast and with little adult assistance, and providing students with online access to French books, 42% of students in a 50% English and 50% French virtual kindergarten setting were observed to be able to read French books of the Magenta A series on the Je lis, je lis, litératie ! website after 6 months.
