Landing doc for the session:

Video has long been thought to be a useful classroom tool, but for many teachers, it became an essential medium of instruction during the recent turn to virtual learning. However, not all videos are equal. In this two-part series, we explore the role of video as part of instruction, investigate the elements of good videos, and get our hands dirty with a quick and fairly easy way to make videos without having to use video editing software.  In Part 1, we take stock of instructional videos and analyze videos through the lens of the Community of Inquiry Model which highlights instructional, cognitive, and social presence. Several video use-cases are highlighted, e.g., direct instruction, community building, formative assessment, etc., and a set of principles for crafting videos are discussed.
